Literature Text

We were challenging gravity, maintaining a balance
though the wind wished for me to disintegrate and blow away.
I felt it pulling at my skin, felt you pushing against my flesh.
I gave into the wind, as I always do.
I gripped your skin for the last time.
We were visible only when the wind quit shaking the leaves.
When the final gust came, I eased myself down from the tree,
and walked away from our last scene.
I made my way in the darkness though my eyes were not quite adjusted.
I wrote two versions of this poem in April, 2008.
This is the second version.
